Dear parents,
Bidding farewell to the graduating class of 2024 today, the Year 12s themselves gave the school the best reminder of why we are here: to graduate Catholic disciples of Jesus who are mission-ready to take the love of God into the world. The graduating class has, by virtue of their outstanding fundraising efforts, bestowed upon the school parting gifts of a St Francis of Assisi statue, St Joseph of Cupertino prayer cards and House banners in support of the various carnivals and gala day.
The Year 12s spent the afternoon visiting classes in their muck up costumes, reminiscing with students in each level, before officially handing over the hall kitchen to a grateful Year 11 cohort, eager to hang out and boil some 2-minute noodles. The dignity and good humour with which they made speeches and presented gifts were a tribute to their parents' love and devotion. Speaking on behalf of the teachers and support staff of SMMC, I can't help but feel a strong sense of gratitude and pride in these exemplary young people.
I would like to congratulate our new College Captains, Gemma Kite and Patrick Byrnes, who were elected yesterday after the Year 11 captain nomination speeches. I've no doubt that Gemma and Patrick will capably fill the large shoes left unoccupied by Xavier Wall and Sarah O'Brien.
Finally, I would like to wish every family a restful and rejuvenating holiday break and look forward to seeing you in term 4.
Warm regards,
Ian Smith
Principal
