Dear Parents,
Now in my sixth year as principal, I've not seen SMMC students to be devoted to a tackle version of lunchtime footy. Until now, that is, just when our yard space has been severely curtailed while the new classrooms are positioned. There is simply no accounting for human nature. But I've enjoyed watching a new vibrancy emerge in the students' play, while they learn about their own and their counterparts' capacity and the importance of practising shared understandings.
Two-thirds of the new buildings are in place as we await the final installment next week. Rain has forced the introduction of a spectacular crane, which catches your eye as a module dangles precariously over its architectural siblings. There remains several months of work to operationalise the new wing of the school, anticipating an official opening and blessing towards the very end of the school year.
Well, it is the end of the financial year and I would like to invite you to consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the SMMC Building Fund, details of which you find overleaf. The pressures, financial and otherwise, of establishing these new learning and staff spaces are, I can assure you, very real. Any contribution, large or small, will make a real difference to our circumstances. Thank you!
Finally, joyful news has arrived from Rome. Pope Leo XIV has announced the date for the canonisation of Bl Pier Giorgio Frassati and Bl Carlo Acutis, it being Sunday 7th September. SMMC will mark this occasion, recalling especially last year's glorious visit of the relics of Bl Carlo.
Thank you for your support.
Warm regards,
Ian Smith
