2025 Newsletter Term 3: week 4

Dear Parents,

Perhaps you are considering participating in St Michael's Lent, which starts tomorrow evening on the solemn feast of the Assumption. Although I had heard of the Franciscan tradition, I've not taken the step before. Now, taking a look before I leap, it seems to come at the perfect moment when the Winter chill makes getting up early for prayer and exercise feel like climbing K2 in thongs during a blizzard.

One of the inspired moments of this year's St Michael's Lent will assuredly be the canonisation of Bls Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frasatti on Sunday 7th September. To mark and make the most of this glorious event, I would like to invite you to the term 3 Parent Night to be held in the Hall on Thursday 4th September at 7.00pm. Lavington assistant priest, Fr Michael Perry, will be the guest speaker on this occasion. How to raise saints will be Fr Perry's ambitious, but essential, topic, taking the lives of these contemporary saints as his starting point and inspiration throughout. Fr Perry will back up the next morning to address high school students on the same theme.

Last Friday, we celebrated the feast of our school patroness, St Mary MacKillop, on an unforgettable day when we entered St Mary's world, taking a breather from the everyday challenges and allowing peace to reign. I would like to congratulate Elora Blood (Year 8), whose magnificent drawing of St Mary MacKillop was chosen as the artwork for the 2026 student diary.

Thanks for your support.

Warm regards,

Ian Smith

Principal
