Term 1, 2026 Newsletter - week 2

Dear parents,

What a delight to welcome students back to school this week! I hope you've had a happy and relatively productive start. Sometimes it's the anticipation that kills me, while the getting-back-into-it is a relief.

The first day of school coincided with the feast of the Presentation of the Lord in which Simeon's long-held anticipation of the Saviour's coming was rewarded by the sight of Jesus. His expectant faith was a sign of the trust that issued from God to Simeon, to which this holy servant reciprocally gave in return. Simeon's perseverance models a "fear not" faith, placing total trust in God who loves us and has a plan for each of us.

SMMC welcomes nine new families, eight of which have children in Kindergarten. We also welcome new members of staff. Mr Pat Cattell is the Year 4 class teacher, assuming the role while Mrs Cattell is on parental leave. Mrs Vivienne Boddy is teaching Year 7-10 English and Visual Art. Mrs Boddy is an accomplished artist who is sure to inspire and guide student creativity. Mr Joshua Goodwin recently moved to the area and is engaged in casual relief teaching. Welcome to all!

I'm looking forward to meeting up with the new and well-seasoned families on Sunday at the Welcome BBQ. May 2026 bring success in the academic, sporting and artistic fields, but, above all, deeper faith and persevering trust in Our Lord.

Warm regards,

Ian Smith

Principal
