Dear parents,
The House Cross Country will be run and won this coming Tuesday at the Jindera Country Club. While it is the most accessible sporting carnival, it is also the most testing of students' resolve and persevering spirit. When will I give up, is the question that may not become consciously considered even while it is being actively implemented.
At the end of his life, St Paul talks about being spent, literally 'poured out in sacrifice.' "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Tim 4:7). St Paul never gives up and remains an awkwardly demanding role model when the temptation to walk the rest of the way, whether it be at a sports carnival, study, work, church, family life or any other activity worth doing, gnaws at our resolve.
After the testing comes the fruit of our labour and I can see that playing out with the renewal of sacred music currently underway at SMMC. I am very grateful to parents who attended the workshop on Monday featuring Ronan Reilly, founder of the Jubilate Deo program. Ronan also led a brief showcasing of primary classes' progress so far at an assembly that morning. None who saw the joyful energy, smiling faces and studied precision of primary students could doubt that the school is embarking on a new race that, please God, we are determined to finish.
In a similar vein, the St Patrick's Day Pageant, which was celebrated on Tuesday, is an annual SMMC trademark demonstrating that Christian and western culture has not completely vacated the building and is owed in large part to the dedication of our teachers who work with students to craft a performance that glorifies God, honours the saints and edifies the audience.
I am looking forward to Tuesday's carnival in anticipation of students running the race to the finish as a sign of House loyalty and their resolve to persevere in all things.
Thanks for your support.
Warm regards,
Ian Smith, Principal
