Dear parents,
Year 11 (or Year 12, as they like to call themselves) have made a terrific start to their leadership and presence in the school with the staging of their first fundraiser, not one, but 12 lolly jar guessing competitions, and fun activities for students during lunchtime and period 4 last Friday.
Maintaining that momentum into next week and beyond, they will lead an awareness campaign to cast a light on Christian persecution, culminating in a Red November commemoration on Tuesday 18th November. On this day, high school students are invited to wear a red accessory in solidarity with persecuted Christians throughout the world in exchange for a gold coin donation, which will go to Aid to the Church in Need.
Also last Friday, primary students were presented in their holy regalia at the Saints Parade before purchasing their cheese and salad roll. Parents may be relieved to know that that concludes dress up days for the year. I am most grateful for the above-and-beyond efforts required to present children so finely costumed. I must also express my gratitude to Mrs Galvin for organising lunch for such a large group. Thank you Mrs Galvin!
Year 7&8 students put on a show of their own this week on their annual Market Day. Under the vigilant care of Mr Couture, students coordinated numerous displays of food-like substances that the patrons loved. They did a great job, raising $750, which will go towards the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.
Finally, I'd like to acknowledge the visit on Wednesday of the Immaculata Sisters and their mission team - 10 missionaries in all - who ran retreats for high school students. Among the many good things, they brought to our students, it is their joy in Our Lord that is so happily infectious.
Thanks for your support.
Warm regards,
Ian Smith
Principal
