Dear parents,
I was struck by how capably SMMC students handled the debate topic at this week's House Gala Day. The proposition read thus:
In one of his novels, Fyodor Dostoevsky wrote that "Beauty will save the world." This is true now, more than ever.
Though I leaned towards thinking, or perhaps just wishing, that the affirmative had the stronger case, I found myself agreeing with and fascinated by the arguments presented by each speaker, whether they be for or against. It was a rich topic and each speaker was credible and convinced, at least by outward appearance, by the coherence and strength of their case.
I don't know if the beauty of our new classrooms and staff spaces will save the world, but they sure will come in handy. The newly-established buildings will be officially opened and blessed during this year's Presentation Night at 6.45pm on Tuesday 9th December. Local federal MP, Sussan Ley, will oversee the opening and Fr Byrnes will bless the new buildings. Year 1,2,3&4 'move in' at the end of week 8, while staff will make their move the following week.
Along similar lines, the new atria have been blessed by Fr Perry and are being used by primary students during their catechesis lessons. Parents will be able to tour the atria and new buildings at the conclusion of Presentation Night.
Thanks for your support.
Warm regards,
Ian Smith
Principal
